Yeshivat Chachmei Lublin, Founded by Daf Yomi Creator, to Welcome Newest Edition of the Talmud

LUBLIN, POLAND, August 1, 2019 --
Yeshivat Chachmei Lublin, the largest center of Jewish learning before the Holocaust, welcomed the newest edition of the Talmud:
The Noé Edition Koren Talmud Bavli.
The yeshiva was founded in 1930 by Rabbi Meir Shapiro, creator of the Daf Yomi initiative, and was largely destroyed during the Holocaust. The 42-volume set was donated by Koren Publishers Jerusalem and dedicated by members of the
Young Israel of Woodmere who are participating in a heritage tour run by
JRoots.
Inside the historic Yeshiva
Yeshivat Chachmei Lublin once held about 22,000 books and approximately 10,000 journal volumes. During the Holocaust, the yeshiva was confiscated by military police and was converted into a military hospital. The Nazis burned much of the library. It was later turned into a medical school, but was returned to the Jewish community in 2003. The synagogue and beit midrash were reopened 2007.
Now, in an effort to replenish some of the holy books that were destroyed and to mark the completion of the
Noé Edition Koren Talmud Bavli,
Koren Publishers donated an entire set to the yeshiva. It will be one of the first institutions in the world to receive a complete set of this new talmud. The edition has a contemporary layout with a bilingual section, digitized Daf Vilna with punctuation and vowels, and translation, commentary and notes by Rabbi Adin Even-Israel Steinsaltz. The editor-in-chief is the esteemed Rabbi Dr. Tzvi Hersh Weinreb.
A dedication ceremony took place in the historic Beit Midrash on August 1, 2019. It was conducted by the directors of JRoots with a talmud shiur given by Rabbi Hershel Billet, rabbi of the Young Israel of Woodmere.
