Rabbi David Silber is the founder of the “Derisha” program in New York, leading it from its foundation. He has taught Tanakh for many years to many and varied communities in the United States and Israel. Ben Zion Ovadia is the head of the Chavruta Beit Midrash in the Hebrew University, and teaches at Derisha. The Derisha Beit Midrash was one of the first trailblazers in batei midrash for women, founded in 1979 in New York. It offers many opportunities and programs for learning, which appeal to a broad range of communities and groups across the United States, with some open to men as well. In recent years, the beit midrash expanded its activity to Israel with the opening of the Derisha yeshiva, and with offerings of special courses of study geared to the university student communities.
