This 700-page book is a notebook of novelle and ideas Rav Kook wrote in his twenties, when he served in his first official position, as rabbi of Zeimel, Lithuania in the late 19th century.

The book was preceded by a ten-chapter introduction that surveys the life of Rav Kook as the young rabbi of Zeimel, and brings pictures and echoes from then. The death of the wife in his youth, her grave (which is also the location of Rav Kook's house), recently found in Zeimel, the moving poem he wrote in her memory and its plunge into the world of the inner Torah as a cure for mourning. The topics dealt with in the book are many and varied: study and halakhah alongside midrash and aggadah, kabbalistic ideas and innovative interpretations. Along with short paragraphs with specific commentary, there are also lengthy and complex passages that analyze a number of different issues across various parts of Judaism. It can be seen prominently that at a very early age, Rav Kook was gifted with outstanding characteristics: great originality and remarkable knowledge of all parts of the Torah. The book is the product of 15 students of Harel Cohen in cooperation with Maggid Publishers.
